Privacy Policy

The short version

Verscroll has no account, no sign-up, and no login. It includes no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking SDKs, and it does not collect personal information about you. The only time Verscroll uses the network is to fetch the verse text you ask for from the official Bible APIs. Your verses and your memorization progress are stored on your device.

Personal data we collect

None. We do not collect your name, email, phone number, location, contacts, or any advertising or device identifier, and we have no server that stores information about you.

Fetching verse text

When you add or open a verse, Verscroll requests that passage from the Bible API for your chosen translation — the ESV API (api.esv.org, operated by Crossway) or the NLT API (api.nlt.to, operated by Tyndale). The request contains only the verse reference (for example “John 3:16”) and the translation you selected. No personal information, account, or device identifier is sent. Each provider handles these requests under its own privacy policy. Once fetched, the verse text is stored on your device so it is available offline for review.

Where your data lives

Your verses and recitation history are stored locally on your device. Your list of locked apps, your lock state, and your recitation timestamps are stored in your device's app storage. None of it is backed up to us or synced to the cloud, so deleting the app removes this data permanently and it does not transfer between devices.

Screen Time & Family Controls

Verscroll uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) in individual mode to shield the apps you choose. Apple designs this so the selected apps are represented by private tokens — Verscroll cannot see which specific apps you picked, and that information never leaves your device. You can revoke this permission any time in Settings → Screen Time.

Children's privacy

Verscroll collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Verse text is provided by the translations' official APIs:
